FLORETS -THE ECO CLUB ON THE OCCASION OF DIWALI

Activities organized on 24 Oct 19 by FLORETS -THE ECO CLUB on the occasion of Diwali.
Festivals are not only meant for celebration but are also an opportunity to educate kids about our culture and traditions. With that aim in mind, Florets –The Eco Club of AFSSS, organized various activities for the whole school as this is the most awaited festival of the year. For class III students, Eco club organized ‘Diya And Candle Decoration Competition’ as candles and diyas add to the beauty of Diwali night. Children used ribbons, mirrors, stickers, designer tapes, etc to decorate candles and diyas. Children were told about the importance of Diwali festival and were also told why candles and diyas are lit on the occasion of Diwali. To reinforce the tradition of making sweets during Diwali, we had ‘Cooking Without Fire Competition’ for the tiny-tots of our school. Students of classes 4 and 5 prepared besan ladoos, coconut ladoos, sandwiches and many more items. For classes 6 to 8 ‘Best Out Of Waste Activity’ was planned and students were asked to make some Diwali decorative items from the waste available to them. Students made artificial flowers, garlands, door hangings, torans, lanterns, etc. For classes 9 to 12 ‘Card Making Competition’ was held as handmade cards have a unique appeal and charm. Children made attractive cards by using different stickers, sheets, colours, beads, markers, etc. The efforts of the best three winners from each category were highly appreciated and prizes were given to encourage them.
On 25 Oct 19, a special assembly was organized for students from primary wing, who had put up a ‘Fancy Dress Show’. They dressed up in as different characters – hindu deities, green crackers etc. As such events provide an amicable platform for them to showcase their talents and express themselves with confidence. A group of senior children performed ‘Nukkad Natak’ to spread mass awareness about the harmful effects of crackers. Children of AFSSS took pledge that they were not going to burn crackers and would celebrate Eco –Friendly Diwali.
