SOUTH PASADENA Josh Martinez completed a big night with a 4 yard run and then scored the two point conversion with four seconds left to lift Bellarmine Jefferson High School to a 50 49 victory over Pasadena Poly in a nonleague game on Friday at South Pasadena High. The score was tied at 42 when the Panthers (4 1) drove 62 yards in eight plays, highlighted by Jake Zelek’s 11 yard run to take a 49 42 lead with 2:16 remaining. "I didn’t feel comfortable with two minutes left," Poly coach Brendan McGrail said. "We knew they could score. "It was really a tale of two games; to play so well on offense and not so well on defense. Same kids on both sides. But give them some credit." The Guards (2 3) went 70 yards in 10 plays for the game winner. Martinez finished with 236 yards on 32 carries and four touchdowns, along with three catches for 17 yards and a score. He also scored on four two point conversions. Sophomore quarterback Johnathan Porter finished 13 for 24 for 241 yards and a touchdown. The Panthers were led by Griffin Carter, who rushed for 132 yards on 13 carries, and Zelek, who had 151 yards on 19 carries. Alex Pinon returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a score and Curtis Toyota’s 30 yard interception return gave the Panthers the early advantage. Royce Kirkland
