It’s official have now reached the half way mark on my BMO Vancouver Half Marathon training program!

As I was headed out along the New Westminster Quay for a short 5K run this morning, it dawned on me. Wow, the time is now going by quite fast!

My run along the Fraser River this morning went by quite fast too. As you know from my last run on the Fraser, I love the industrial feel of the river. The sights and sounds of the river traffic continuously grabbed my attention as made my way along the river path.

It’s a good time for a thorough review of where I am right now and what I need to do to prepare for my May 5th race day, I thought. Understandably, I did not have my detailed training plan committed to memory so I had to wait until I was home until I was able to take a good look at my situation.

So here I am in the wee small hours again, writing my blog here in the red leather armchair, taking a good look at my most up to date half marathon training plan.

Well, let’s start with what I have done thus far. Regarding my health, I feel that I am doing well, especially since this has been a tough period for me, both mentally and emotionally, given my father in law Carl’s illness and eventual passing at the end of February.

Running was often my saviour during this difficult time, as it has been through many other tough times in my life. Physically, my body is holding up very well considering the significant increase in weekly mileage. I’m still experiencing some minor pain in my left knee, but I am not overly concerned about it. At this point in my race plan, I have got 8 more weeks of training, comprised of 24 runs for a total of 216K.

Well, when I look back at my running, rehabilitation and indeed, my life experiences over the past two months, they have been dramatic and profound.
