Wendy Fletcher Shannon, president of the alumnae chapter, said the goal is to raise awareness about women’s health issues.

“I hope this event will become an annual event,” said Fletcher Shannon, adding that she hopes the Listen to Your Heart 5K Run/Walk will grow to become a longer walk/run and a signature event.

Created in 2004, the American Heart Association Go Red for Women initiative strives to raise awareness of heart disease as the No. 1 killer of women and to empower women to take charge of their heart health.
