PASADENA Public health officials Tuesday announced schedules for the final round of free swine flu vaccination clinics, saying they’ll rely on private health care providers to distribute the vaccine beginning next week. “As supplies of H1N1 vaccine increase, it is time for public health departments to step back and for doctors and Jordan Winterized 6 Rings community clinics to step forward in meeting the unique needs of their patients and community,” Dr. Jonathan Fielding, director of the Los Angeles County’s Air Jordan 8s Department of Public Health, said at a news conference. Sunday at the Rose Bowl Parking Lot K, said Dr. Takashi Wada, director of Pasadena’s Public Health Department, who also attended the news conference. “We’re not exactly sure yet how many doses” will be available, Wada said. Fielding said residents in the priority groups for H1N1 vaccine and who do not have a regular source of health care “are strongly encouraged to take advantage of (the final clinics) to receive free vaccine.” Wada said Pasadena has recorded relatively few and mostly mild cases of swine flue only three hospitalizations and no deaths. The rate of infection seems to be decreasing, he said. “It could be partly the vaccination, but pandemics tend to come in waves and we’re Air Jordan 6s prepared in case we get another wave of cases coming in,” Wada said. After this week, H1N1 vaccine will still be available to those without a regular source of health care through community clinics. A limited number of appointments will also be available at Los Angeles County Public Health centers, officials said. “Ending the public health run mass vaccination clinics in no way implies that the risk of H1N1 infection has also ended,” said Dr. Helene Calvet, health officer for Long Beach, who was at the news conference. The priority groups for the H1N1 vaccine include: pregnant women; people living with or caring for infants under six months of age; emergency medical services personnel and health care workers; children and young adults from 6 months through 24 years old; people 25 through 64 years old with chronic medical conditions like heart or lung disease, asthma, diabetes, or weakened immune systems. “During the holiday season, more individuals travel or gather in homes, shopping malls, movie theaters or other locations, increasing the potential for illness to spread,” Wada said. “We strongly encourage these high risk groups to protect their health and the health of their loved ones by getting vaccinated.” Public health departments had originally intended to target those without health insurance or a regular source of health care, but a temporary shortage in the vaccine led to larger than expected crowds at public clinics. “This has been a joint H1N1 vaccination effort between the public health departments of Long Air Jordan 13s Beach, Pasadena and Los Angeles County,” said Fielding. “Moving from a mass vaccination effort to a community based effort merely marks the successful end of the public health departments’ large scale outreach, as we planned from the beginning.” Nearly 1.2 million doses of H1N1 vaccine have been delivered Air Jordan 1s to private health care providers in the county. The county Department of Public Health has administered more than 175,500 doses of the vaccine through 97 clinics from Oct. 23 through Nov. 22. Sunday’s clinic at the Rose Bowl could draw thousands of people, but predictions were difficult to make, Wada said.
