ContributedRYAN Wilkins was the youngest and least experienced chef in the competition but that didn’t stop him from winning the national Accor Golden Plate (Assiette D award earlier this month.The 21 year old from Ningi beat 240 chefs from Accor hotels across the country to claim the prestigious title.The Masterchef like competition pitted Jordan Retro 9 chef waiter pairs against each other in a series of challenges, culminating in the final in Sydney.Ryan and partner Arron Van Stryp, Air Jordan 6s of Sebel Suites in Brisbane, got up in the wee hours of the morning to head to the city’s premier fish market with $150 in hand.They selected the freshest Australian barramundi they could find for the main meal.”We found out where it was from, actually the person who caught it, the name of the guy,” Jordan 9 Retro he said.”We didn’t do much to the barramundi because it’s such a good product.”The young chef said this was typical of his approach to cooking, which he characterised as “great produce, done simply”.He combined with waiter Arron Van Stryp to deliver three delicious courses, paired with wines, to impress a panel of renowned judges including celebrity chef Justin North.Ryan put competition success down to preparation, and the mountain of recipes and cooking knowledge stored in his head.”It’s about a lot of mental preparation and knowing lots of different avenues you can go down to deal with a curve ball,” he said.The up Air Jordan 16s and comer won an embroidered chef jacket, trophy, a medal and $500 in cash but it was the prestige that mattered Air Jordan Spizike to him most.
