PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) Forward Jorge Perlaza recorded a goal and an assist and midfielder Diego Chara scored his first goal of the season as the Portland Timbers defeated Cascadia rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 1 in front of 18,627 at a sold out JELD WEN Field on Saturday.With the capacity crowd, the Timbers have recorded 13 consecutive sellouts for league matches at JELD WEN Field during their inaugural Major League Soccer season.The Timbers jumped out to an early lead when Chara tallied just 76 seconds into the match, getting a final pass from Perlaza. After setting up the opening strike, Perlaza then found the back of the net in the 33rd minute as a result of a free kick into the box to give Portland a 2 0 lead. Vancouver Camilo scored in the closing minutes of the match to bring to a close a physical, opening match to a renewal of a long standing rivalry between the two sides.Perlaza logged his sixth goal and second assist of the season, midfielder Jack Jewsbury recorded his second assist in three games, midfielder Kalif Alhassan attempted a team high three shots and goalkeeper Troy Perkins Air Jordan Fusion 4 made three saves to earn his sixth win of the season for the Timbers (8 12 5, 29pts).
