Wooden Toy Boxes

Wooden toy boxes have been around for centuries, these days they come in all shapes, sizes and patterns, from ones covered in Disney stickers, to Thomas the Tank Engine ones and more personlised ones with childrens names engraved on them.

For those who are confident in their DIY woodworking skills and have the necessary equipment then you can go about making one for yourself. You can build a very nice wooden toy box with just basic Air Jordan 13s DIY tools, or a more fancy engraved one should you have the equipment. Other things to consider before you start on this project are what size you want the toy box to be, do you want it on wheels or not, what name, pattern or sticker or design you would like to put on the lid.

When you have decided how you would like your finished design for your wooden toy box to look like then there are some items you will need buy from your local DIY store. These include plywood which if you go to the right place you will find that they can even cut the plywood to size for you, very helpful if you do not have the necessary tools. Other items you will need include nails, wood glue, decorative hinges, and paint. If you want to have a cushioned lid then you will also need some wooden trim, a staple gun, foam padding material to go over the top of the padding. If you want to hand paint the sides and the lid then you will need an assortment of paint colors. If you choose to do the foam top then purchase enough material to cover the thickness of the foam thickness that you purchase plus another couple of inches to pull in the back. Choose fabric that will compliment your theme or decor.

To assemble the box you may need some help in the shape of another person or long clamps. If you did not have the wood cut at the home store then measure and cut the pieces. The following example is for a wooden toy box two foot Air Jordan 11s high by two foot wide and four foot long. For this you should have four pieces 48 by 24 inches and two pieces 24 by 24 inches; these are the two end pieces. Form the rectangle by standing one of 48 inch boards on its side then apply glue to the edge of the 24 inch piece. Press the glued edge to the inside edge of the 48 inch piece. Nail then countersink the box. Follow this procedure for the other sides. You should now have the rectangle frame complete. With the frame complete you can glue and nail the wooden floor piece in place, if you are looking for further strength then you could always add L shaped brackets to the inside of the corners and for even more robustness you could add 8 metal corner covers.

If you do not want a cushioned top then you can drill pilot holes for the hinges. I would place the hinges about 12 inches in from the sides. At this point you can also add a small handle to the front center of the box top using the same procedure.

For a cushioned top take the plywood and do make all your pilot holes. Do not attach the hardware yet. Take the fabric and lay it on the workbench with the wrong side facing up. Lay the batting followed by the foam padding. Take the plywood and place on top of the foam padding. Make sure everything is straight. An extra pair of hands would be helpful here.

Start this procedure by stapling four points first. You want to start in the middle pull then staple go to the opposite Air Jordan 7s side pull and staple, then pull and staple the middle of the two ends. Follow this procedure all the way around, staple then go to the opposite side. The staples should be about an inch in. Trim the excess material. Air Jordan 6s You can add wood trim to hide the raw edges. Measure again twelve inches from either side, this should be where your pilot holes are. Make a small hold in the material then screw the hinges and handle. The box is ready to primer and paint.
