The defense wasn’t perfect, nor was the offense sound.

But the Orangefield girls basketball team was still able to do just enough to beat Hardin KOBE 9 Jefferson 31 28 in a District 21 3A Air Jordan 8 Retro playoff game Friday night.

“We held Hardin Jefferson at bay just enough to win the game,” said Orangefield coach . “We got some key Air Jordan 1s rebounds and made just enough baskets in the end to win.”

The Bobcats will represent the district as the No. 1 playoff seed, while Hardin Jefferson will be the No. 2 seed. Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs at . Orangefield receives a first round bye.

The Bobcats (25 5) and Hardin Jefferson (21 8) finished the district season as co district champions at 9 1. Hamshire Fannett finished in third place.

“We’re really excited about winning our second straight district championship,” Jost said. “We hope to make a deep run in the playoffs.”

Orangefield’s made two free throws in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, which sealed the three point victory for the Bobcats.

Before then, Hardin Air Jordan 16s Jefferson went on an 8 2 run in the fourth to cut its deficit to 29 26 with less than four minutes left to play.

But things soon went south shortly thereafter.

Both teams spent the next three minutes trading turnovers, along with many missed shot attempts. The Hawks had five turnovers and missed five shots before made her team’s final basket with 29 seconds left to play.

Orangefield had four turnovers and missed four shots during the three minute span before Wagner scored two free throws.

Hardin Jefferson held a 14 13 edge at halftime, before the Bobcats outscored the Hawks 14 4 in the third period to take a 27 18 lead.

“Hardin Jefferson played great defense tonight,” said Jost, whose team beat the Hawks 50 39 in its second district game. “I thought we also did a good job of keeping their shooters off balance. We Air Jordan 19s were able to beat last time because they had a poor shooting game.”
