BRISTOL, Va. Dustin Waynick might play football for Virginia Tech.

But he’s pretty good at basketball, too.

Waynick scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Hurley boys basketball team to a 57 49 win over Parry McCluer in a Group A Division 1 quarterfinal Saturday at Virginia High School.

Parry McCluer (22 6), in the state tournament for the first time in 11 years, trailed the entire second half.

Waynick, a 6 foot 7, a 190 pound senior center, was 9 of 13 from the field. He had two 3 pointers and an alley oop dunk.

"When their big kid can pop back and hit 3s and dominate inside too, it’s pretty tough," Parry McCluer coach Nelson Fox said.
