Kevin Durant is at the center of the NBA universe at the moment. With his Oklahoma City Thunder simply overpowering the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Durant and company will be looking to earn a decisive 2 0 advantage tonight. And with a few more dominant performances such as in Game 1, Durant will be well on his way to becoming not just the true face of the Thunder (sorry, Russell Westbrook and his absurd glasses), but taking the title of face of the NBA from LeBron James.

Aaron Knows

And the rivalry between Durant and James extends to their feet as well. For several yeas now, LeBron James and Nike has pushed the boundaries of what people will be willing to pay for his signature shoes. Kevin Durant on the other hand, has relented on breaking the $100 barrier for a while now, and that has actually contributed to his popularity. Not only was his signature shoe, the Nike Zoom KD IV, one of the most popular shoes this season but it was also applauded for its affordable well, relative to what Nike charges for everything else price point.

But if the reports are to be believed from Sneaker Files, people might want to hold off on that applause. Images have surfaced online revealing the look of Durant’s next signature kicks, the Nike Zoom KD V. The shoe will have a Hyperfuse upper with a integrated stretch lacing system. The KD V will also have Max Air cushioning on the heel along with Zoom on the forefoot. And the cost of all of these new additions to the KD V? $115, which is a $20 increase from the KD IV.

The question now is, with the jump to a higher price tag, will this affect Durant’s popularity. He has done a fantastic job of cultivating an image as being a sort of people’s champion and if his shoes no longer reflect that, it is possible that this could bring down sales of his shoes. The colorways featured in the slideshow are due for Spring 2013, but expect the standard OKC colorways along with a few surprises to release sometime this fall.
